The Summer Dress, via Create28
I bought this dress on our girls' weekend at Loft. I'm just going to pretend you aren't sick of hearing about the weekend we lived in a mall. Loft was one of the Friday night stops and I don't think we were expecting to come away with anything, mostly because Loft is a store I don't normally rush into but am sometimes surprised at what I found. Turns out we were all surprised at Loft and many of us left with some cute dresses. Candace bought a beautiful black drop waist dress (2nd picture, 2nd on left) and Alynne and Christy both bought a really cute maxi dress. I originally bought a gingham drop waist dress, which I returned (and am now regretting)- I would also like to know why the dress is listed online for 30$ more than the regular price in the store. Weird.

The dress that survived the cut for me was this off the shoulder chambray dress, because something chambray was on my list. Sigh, so was something gingham. Let's drool over my remorseful return for a second here. Le sigh.
So here's the dress, styled with a sunhat I bought at DSW also in Edmonton and some shades from our blog conference in April. I can already hear my friend, Sara cringing at the wrinkles in the dress....I don't iron my clothes- in fact I don't even know where our iron is, or if we have one. After looking at these pictures, maybe I should locate it, because this dress sure needs one. Or better yet, I'll just bring it to Sara's...maybe she'll iron it for me.

Dress, sans hat, with my Ugg lace up wedges- similar here. As a side note- comfiest wedges ever. Although I think I said that about my platform wedges last week. Oops. Also as a side note- I love all the shoes, all the time.

Lucia and I did this photo shoot on a chilly day- I wanted to get her and I in our sundresses but it was so windy and cold and despite her being a trooper, this last one was all we got of us together. Although, I have a feeling there will be way more photo shoots in the future with her- she loved it!

Couple notes about the dress- it came with a tie for a waist belt thingy, but dresses look hideous on me when I try to tie them around my waist...likely because I'm still working on them curves. So I took the belt tie string thing off and wore it as a home-made choker necklace instead because I saw it on a blog and wanted to copy cat. You can see Andrea's look here and she got her's on Etsy, so why can't I get mine off a dress I just bought. In retrospect, I wish I would have worn it with a black dress and tied it properly. Also- why do I look so tired?

Link up your fashion posts with us as we continue the Create 28 prompts- this is what we're wearing this week...come back on Friday and I'll show you how I style my Blue Jays' gear!

I love the dress and think it's even more appealing without the tie. I'm not a huge fan of drawing attention to my mid-section so I would have styled it just like you.
ReplyDeleteLOVE that chambray dress on your and hello, you and Lucia...sweetest and prettiest models around!!! Girl, you look innocent in that pic, not tired. ;-) I like the belt round your neck, you chic cutie!!
ReplyDeleteLove that chambray dress!! And the one three of your friends tried on!
ReplyDeleteThat chambray dress is so cute! Love your lace up wedges too! Lucia is such a fashionista! What a fun mommy/daughter photo shoot!

You two are awesome, don't you love it when the kid "mans up" for the sake of a photo shoot :P. Love your dress.
ReplyDeleteSuper cute dress!!!

Ah the loft, remember when I bought that cute cardigan there when we were in Nyc? I love ironing, was my fav chore as a kid, you just set the board up in front of the tv, very relaxing, my mom ironed EVERYTHING, even the pillow cases!
ReplyDeleteBoth of those dresses are super cute! I think I need a chambray dress on my list too :) And I pretty much will never get tired of that time you spend the weekend in the mall...living vicariously friend.
ReplyDeleteIf you don't want to iron just take a hot shower with your dress hung nearby. It isn't perfect but it helps.
ReplyDeleteI am so jealous of that dress. I love it and have been searching and searching. I finally found one and it arrived yesterday, only to open it and see right away that it was going to be too big. Put it on and I looked a lot like the paper bag princess, and not the cute kind. :(
ReplyDeleteLucia, you are adorable. I love her little jean vest and the pale pink dress. So sweet.
Your dress is just what a summer dress should be, a little flirty, cool. Love Miss L.'s flirty number, too. And your shoes? I need to join in on the espadrille trend. That tiny pattern on yours is so feminine. Like china. Tried to pin pics to Lucia to our TBB Family board but no luck. Sure is a cutie. Look how her feet are off the ground as she hugs you.
ReplyDeleteOH my gosh. I want to live in this post. I love all these photos. That picture of Lucia is a framer for sure. OF COURSE YOUR BLUE DRESS IS FROM LOFT. I NEED IT.
ReplyDeleteLove them all. And I will never be tired of hearing about the weekend you lived in a mall! NEVER.
ReplyDeleteOh that dress looks so great on you! I've yet to do the off the shoulder thing, but you rock it!
ReplyDeleteLove the dress, Deena and love these pics with you and your daughter! Such a great girls weekend find!

I kinda like it...although I'm not a huge fan of the strapless bra
ReplyDeleteI gotta take more pictures with that little monkey!
ReplyDeleteI will have to add that little munchkin to the board
ReplyDeleteOf course you would want a dress ;)
ReplyDeleteCan't wait to catch up with you next week
ReplyDeletelol, love the image of you as the paper bag princess though ;)
ReplyDeleteI think you should add it to your list too....
ReplyDeleteGood idea. I hate ironing
ReplyDeleteI liked that one they tried on too!
ReplyDeleteYup, definitely have to do it more often
ReplyDeleteShe was totally game!
ReplyDeleteThanks!
ReplyDeleteI can see you doing that at our old place. You must have done it lots. I don't even know if I can locate our iron.
ReplyDeleteYay! I tried it with the belt but it looked ridiculous.
ReplyDeleteLucia is the little cutie for sure!
ReplyDeleteDeena, LOVE!!!!!! You took it above & beyond with with chambray choker & I'm a big fan! You look awesome & your daughter is adorable!!!

BAH you guys are like little super models!!! LOVE!!! Also remember the time I get to see YOU and your family in AUGUST!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! HOLY heck I'm pumped!!
ReplyDeleteI am definitely NOT tired of hearing about your weekend. This dress is so gorgeous on you. I saw the plaid dress at LOFT and you definitely shouldn't have taken it back. Aren't I helpful? You are Lucia are beautiful.
ReplyDeleteLove the dress, but those wedges - WOW!! Total shoe envy over here!

You can't beat a good chambray dress- and excellent decision taking the belt and repurposing it for a choker! So cute + on trend. Sometimes the belts that come with dresses are impossible to make work.

Oh that chambray dress is lovely on you! Chambray is perfect for summer :) Your daughter is so cute in these photos too, how fun for her to get involved!
ReplyDeleteAway From The Blue Blog
I love that picture of you and your adorable daughter! That dress you got it so fun and summery, it looks like a great pick to me!
ReplyDeleteThat first picture of you in your dress, hat and shades looks straight out of a magazine! Gorgeous! And it's funny that you aren't a hug Loft fan because I think I buy most of my clothes from Loft! I bet if you keep your eye on that gingham dress you will be able to get it for a steal eventually!
ReplyDeleteI don't understand how people look good with something tied or belted around the waist. Whenever I try it, I hate the result. Love the chambray dress though and those wedges-OMG I need them in my life! You and your little are adorable together!
ReplyDeleteCounting down the days!
ReplyDeleteAw, thanks and high fives to you for giving great inspiration! Have a great weekend.
ReplyDeleteThanks, Shea!
ReplyDeleteI have never been a fan of chambray until now
ReplyDeleteYup, definitely like the belt better as a choker!
ReplyDeleteThey are my favourite. Okay, all shoes are my favourite but they are way to pretty and comfy
ReplyDeleteI will be watching out for that dress, that's for sure
ReplyDeleteI agree...I can't get it to work. The wedges are the comfiest things ever.
ReplyDeleteI most certainly will be keeping my eyes open!
ReplyDeleteIf it makes you feel better. I didn't own an iron until my husband bought one. If something needs ironing, he does it :) And I just don't wear things that need ironing, or just embrace the wrinkles. Also WHY did you return that gingham dress? Super sad face
ReplyDeleteIf you hate to iron, try a steamer. It would at least take out the bad wrinkles I really like this dress! Off the shoulder and chambray! Ding ding ding! Winner! And I like your choker too! I hadn't seen that before! Cute!
ReplyDeleteYou and Lucia look gorgeous! That dress is perfect piece for the summer, also I really like the wedges.
