When I asked Lucia at the end of her birthday what was her favourite part she candidly replied: the presents and the cake.
Typical answer, I suppose. But there was so much more to her day.
She had a busy day couple days which started on Friday afterschool with her brother's gift. He buys with his own money and was so happy to take her to Build a Bear- you can see the super exciting action (I hate that place) from my Snap. I was quite pleased with her pick though- she picked a Moose and put chocolate scent inside him. Chocolate Moooooose. Hahahah.

Saturday was a busy day- we had morning cuddles and cartoons and then we were off to a matinee with her classmates. 7 little girls, man did we make lots of trips to the bathroom. Angry Birds was the movie- the kids loved it, I thought it was kinda lame. Dan enjoyed all the puns. As soon as the movie was over, we headed home to tidy up and get ready for the second wave of fun: the family party. And naturally, because we booked a party and because it hasn't rained here or been below 24 degrees...Saturday was the day it rained and was quite chilly. But that didn't start the party-goers who still jumped their little hearts out on the trampoline, played a game of horse and even did a polar dip in the pool. We feasted on crepes (3 nights of work and soooo worth it) (and I *made them try my favourite crepe combo- brie, prosciutto and poached fig with a balsamic glaze reduction), there was also a giant caesar salad (my mom's specialty- thanks ma!) and some pizza. And then finally we had Lucia's cake which was a stuffed bear, or something like that.

When Lucia looks back on her day, she may likely remember the cool presents that she got and the clearly awesome cake. But I think what will really stick out to her, in years to come, is the perennial people in her life. She will always be surrounded by a strong family and lifelong friendships that will give her the foundation she needs to feel supported and loved. If my little girl can take away anything from these big celebrations we throw her- it is most certainly the importance of loyalty and love for the people around her, because that is by far the most important present she will ever get.

A birthday weekend filled with people who love and adore her. I think as she grows up what she will know to be true is that she has a great deal of people in her corner but for now it's okay to love all the sugar and presents, it's her right to be a child. 😀
ReplyDeleteThanks!
ReplyDeleteWhat a great birthday! And yes, presents + cake = standard answer, but you guys are also making amazing memories for her she'll look back on and love! :)

Chocolate mooooose! Had me giggling over here. Oh, that plate full of crepes...be still my grumbling stomach. Wonder if they are 21 Day Fix forgivable? I know they were divine. You are raising such loving, thoughtful children. Super important in my book that Willis bought Lucia's gift with his own money. Bruiser gets a high five. And your baby girl is not going to be that much longer. She is growing so fast. Thank you for inviting us in to share in the festivities.
ReplyDeleteThe Chocolate Moose made me laugh out loud! Sounds like a wonderful day. Your daughter is lucky to have such loving people in her life!
ReplyDeleteA chocolate moose? A girl after my own heart.
ReplyDeleteIt's a strange thing to do to stuffies, but she likes it...
ReplyDeleteShe wanted the whole class...this was my compromise.
ReplyDeleteespecially the icing
ReplyDeleteI always miss you.
ReplyDeleteStrangest thing ever, smelly bears
ReplyDeleteShe's a dork!
ReplyDeleteIt was because of the people!

ReplyDeleteI KNOW! That's my biggest complaint.
ReplyDeleteIt was a hit!
ReplyDeleteIt was cute but also lame?
ReplyDeleteThanks, Lisa!
ReplyDeleteCrepes are totally 21 day forgiveable. Flour. Eggs. Milk = pure deliciousness.
ReplyDeleteCrepes are always a hit over here.

ReplyDeletebahahhaahha. She also likes bold print dresses....
