*disclaimer: as you can tell, I had a blog redesign, but I also switched over to Wordpress from Blogger. I like to learn things. So please hang in there as I work out some kinks...like the size of my photos, which I thought I had adjusted. Oops.

So earlier this year, I made the goal of cooking through 2 Barefoot Contessa Cookbooks (because I have 7 and only seem to make a handful of the same recipes.) I am forcing myself to try things I've never heard of or would roll my eyes and skip. Like duck. You can read my previous posts here
I have two complete meals for you today!
This first recipe, I think of all the recipes I've covered is my favourite. Maybe because it is a perfect wintery meal? Maybe because it sounds fancy but is actually quite easy? Perhaps because of the awesome aromas that take over your kitchen whilst it cooks? Regardless, this one will be repeated.

1) Barefoot Contessa's Boeuf Bourguignon. Recipe here. I served it with her Garlic Mashed Potatoes. Recipe here. And her French String Beans. Recipe here.
Kyla and her kids just happened to be visiting on this wintery day when I whipped this up. I'm happy to report that Jamison, Addy, Lucia and Kinsey all gobbled it up.
Willis gave it a zero out of 4.
But then had 3 servings of dessert. (Which I didn't document? Must not have been a Barefoot Contessa Recipe- I don't even remember what it was)

Beef Recipe numéro 2? The night we had boeuf au poivre (recipe here), matchstick potatoes (recipe here) and les palmiers 0r elephant ears (recipe here). Actually- this one has me salivating remembering it, so maybe I just like my steaks and stews.

The Elephant Ears were quite easy and quick to make and the kids loved them (so did I.) They made it into our Christmas cookies rotation and didn't make it out....they all were devoured!
Have a great weekend!

Yum! I love this series and seeing all the great food you're cooking + that you engage your children in the process. I love it, friend!
ReplyDeleteYummy yummy yummy! Love getting the kids involved in the kitchen! Although my silly teenage boys don't really want to cook much anymore, I'm at least glad they know how, LOL! You are so doing Ina proud!
ReplyDeleteI made the chicken piccata this week and it was a huge hit. Beef recipes always go over well around here, so I'll try these too. George is very happy that you're doing this experiment. I just wish you were actually cooking it for us :)!
ReplyDeleteOh YUM!!! Also, why are your posts not showing up in my blogger feed? Do I need to re-add you after your gorgeous web change?
ReplyDeleteWill, what is half of a half? Love, love, love the application of math in the kitchen with kiddos!
ReplyDeleteI keep meaning to tell you - great job on the redesign. (And, I might want to talk more about switching from blogger to wordpress.) Beef Bourguignon reminds me of the Julia Child movie. All those meals look so yummy and my food choice.

MES VOYAGES À PARIS
NEW POST: NEW COAT! PARIS FASHION WEEK II
I love cookbooks and own many. Yet, I hardly every make recipes from them! I'll have to change that!
ReplyDeleteI like Ina Garden's recipes. The ones you cooked sound delicious!
Such a good idea to go through the cookbooks and try some new recipes! I'm glad they turned out so well for you too :)
ReplyDeleteI also have a heap of cookbooks but only cook a few things from them - should try mix it up a little now and then!
Away From The Blue Blog
having the kids be a part of it is definitely the best thing!
ReplyDeleteApparently they are also aren't showing up in feedly. Oy. The things I have to look into this weekend....
ReplyDeleteYAY! Do try these ones...for George, from me.
ReplyDeleteSo far all Willis can do are cookies and waffles, but those are essential, so I'm okay with that. A man definitely needs to know how to cook!
ReplyDeleteWould love to answer your questions! Or at least make up answers if I don't really know.
ReplyDeleteYou would. So much math in this house. Oy. Makes me happy you have some french going on.
ReplyDeleteThat's the fun part of this challenge...I have to make all the recipes, especially the ones I would normally skip. I'm learning lots!
ReplyDeleteThanks for stopping by!
ReplyDeleteI would love to know what kind of meals are typical for you..you're in Australia, right?
ReplyDeleteYep, I'm Aussie :) So that means a lot of BBQs and salads, haha!
ReplyDeleteThe stereotype is kinda true actually - hubby does the best BBQ and I love eating salads year round. In my third trimester at the moment with so many foods that I've gone off, so I'm basically only eating chicken and a handful of fruits/veggies. I can't wait to get back to more varied, normal meals, but right now I'm just tentatively taking bites of things to see if I've gone off them with pregnancy, even if I wanted something really bad I've sat down to eat it and realised I can't stomach it! So far chicken seems okay...thankfully.
This reminds be of Julie and Julia. Such a fun goal!

see the problem with me getting your posts emailed to me is that I then think I've commented on them (because I did in my head while reading said email) but forget to ACTUALLY come and comment.
ReplyDeleteI am starving. Come and cook for me (yes, I say that every week and yes, I will continue to say that whenever I see posts that involve you making deliciousness). Also, for Vegas I'm eating dairy, show me the CHEESE!!!!
Simply Shaunacey
It is very Julie and Julia, minus the awesome setting of Paris. And there's way more burning of things here.
ReplyDeleteI hate getting blog posts via email for that reason too. Bring on the cheese.
